Recently I have been thinking about marriage and what contributes to longevity in relationships. Though there are many reasons, I have concluded that one thing which is incredibly important is appreciation. It seems that conflict increases between people when they begin to slack in appreciation for the other. Which led me to the thought of how much I appreciate Wesley. He is absolutely trustworthy. He tells me all the time how much I mean to him and that he thinks I am a great mom. I am infinitely more confident because of his influence in my life. Among many, many reasons why I respect him, I am en-heartened and inspired by how he continues to pursue, without ever losing the boys' and my amelioration, not a quick and easy path, but a way that develops his God-given abilities and skills into something more mature for the glory of God. I have no doubt in my mind of what beauty the Lord will bring (and is bringing) about through my husbands noble pursuits. Happy birthday, love. You are the best.

I had the pleasure of photographing one of my dearest friends. Caroline is amazingly beautiful, and equally as talented of a dancer & a singer. We met in kindergarten where I'm sure I pinched her. (Yes, I was one of those.) I am so happy for she & Matt for their newest adventure: Stella. I can't wait to meet her!

Funny trivia: we shot this the DAY BEFORE she delivered! Notice the bags literally packed by the door.

Catherine & Steven are such relaxed, layed back people that I knew we were going to have a great time. Can I please gush for a minute about their wedding? It was BEAUTIFUL. They did everything in such a creative and natural way. I was so impressed. The flowers were gorgeous and were actual flowers in bloom from friends' and neighbors' homes. The church is an antebellum church out in the country, the reception at the beautiful Mount Repose, and Catherine's dress. Oh, Catherine's dress! This amazing wedding dress has been in her family for FOUR (yes, you heard me correctly) generations and was worn by her mother and her grandmother, not to mention a handful of other women. Absolutely true to form to what a Southern wedding should be, Catherine's wedding was simply beautiful from start to finish. The delicious cakes were created by Deseret Designs.

I LOVE this girl! When I found out several months ago that my sister was expecting, I immediately started secretly plotting where/when we were going to do her Maternity Session. I am also in love with open fields (as you have probably figured out by now) so when I found this one in particular, Ii was thrilled for it to be a perfect backdrop to my gorgeous sister. Abbie is a sweetheart. It is evident the moment you meet her. I would ask her to do crazy things, and she'd just smile and do it. We could not have asked for a more beautiful day than the day we shot Abbie's Senior Photos. We found this amazing grove of trees way out in the country where the light was just pouring in. It was incredible.

I enjoyed the Engagement Session for Casey & Erin so much! I have known Erin since we were kids, and Casey is my cousin, as well as one of my favorite people in this world. I am SOOO excited for their soon marriage. If I could describe them in words it would be super sweet and super funny. And as hilarious as Casey & Erin are, there is one thing that is immediately more noticeable about them. Its how proud they are of each other. I know that we are not supposed to be prideful people, and I am not suggesting that we are, but these two have such a humbleness in their character that they genuinely encourage and are proud of one another. I love you both! :o)

Lazy Sunday

Wesley & I decided to take the boys out for lunch today to a local place we had never been. Old Venice Pizza was VERY yummy! Let me just say that, yes, Wesley and I are technically on Medifast, but we cheated for lunch. Because, well, sometimes you just have to. So, while it may take me an extra day to fit back into my Skinny Jeans, I say that day was well worth it because the calamari...oh, the calamari. And the Crab & Corn Chowder. Yum.

Thank you Old Venice for giving my three year old crayons and paper while we waited. It made his day.

What makes for a great shoot?

Hey Guys,

I want to share some tips with you on what can help make your photo shoot go from good to great.

Bring accessories. It doesn't matter which type of portrait you are taking, accessories are always great to bring along. Accessories help add a personal dimension that you may not get without them. This can be any number of things. For instance, if you are having a session of your daughter, you might want to consider bringing a special toy that she loves, or that beautiful bright hair bow you have been eyeing. You don't have to wear the items, either. A skateboard if you love to skate. Your favorite chair, a funky umbrella, a popcorn machine. Seriously, anything goes. Here's some examples of how accessories can really bring some character to your shoot.

Choose outfits that are normal for what you wear. If your family doesn't normally all dress up in matching outfits, don't do it in a photo. Sure, you'll want to coordinate, but leave enough room for each person to have individuality. Prints can be fine, just try for even prints, non-distracting prints. Moms, I know that you want the perfect jon jon or bubble (i have 2 boys), and bring it, we'll do some shots in it. But, PLEASE bring their little wranglers & belt buckle (or whatever), too! If your child marches to their own beat and they are so inclined, let them pick out their own outfit! Sometimes the fairy costume with the strawberry rainboots makes for the best pictures!

Have FUN! I am here to document a tiny section in Your life. Sure, I'll help coach you on a bit of what to do, but so often, some of the most honest and memorable shots are when I'm catching you being you. Dance around with your fiance' if that's what you do. We'll crank up the iTunes. Let your kiddo run around, we're not worried about grass stains.

Its been a busy December (and January, for that matter). Besides the regular craziness of the holidays, we have moved in the middle of it all. We are now settling in and loving it. I shot Devin and David's Rehearsal and Wedding a few weeks back. I had such a good time shooting their Wedding. If I could describe these two in a few words it would be relaxed, fun, and warm. Both Devin and David are extremely hospitable people, and as fun as they are inviting. Dinner was served at the oh-so-yummy Pig Out Inn. Seriously good barbeque. The couple were so sweet and both had such fun-loving, gracious families.
